Have you heard about Beachbody Coaching, but wondered what it’s about?

I can totally relate to that. Been there, done that! In this post, I’m going to break down what Beachbody Coaching is–I’ll talk about the type of people who thrive, and also those who struggle with this business.

What you need to know before becoming a Beachbody Coach

I’m going to go over everything that I think it useful to know prior to becoming a Beachbody Coach:

  • My Story About Coaching & What It Has Done for Me
  • What Does a Coach Do?
  • How Does a Beachbody Coach Make Money?
  • What Kind of Training is Offered?
  • What Does a Beachbody Coach Do on a Daily Basis?

My Story About Coaching & What It Has Done For Me

I want to take you back to a few years ago. An error in my student loans caused financial issues for us and, to top it off, my daughter was hospitalized with a medical condition that took nearly a year to finally get a diagnosis on. We were swimming in debt. My rock bottom moment was when we had walked away from our home and we were staying in a tiny apartment. One night my Mom was watching my kids & my son was running a 104+ fever. We desperately needed to get home to him, but there was one problem, we were stranded at a gas station. We swiped every card we had. We called our bank. But the problem was, we were completely maxed out on debt. THAT was my rock bottom. And I was determined to do something about it, but did not yet know what to do.

We somehow got back on decent financial footing, but at the time, I was a doctoral student in education, and I kept doing the math. I kept looking up different salaries of professors and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to pay off this debt. I felt trapped and with no solution. On top of that, I was a mother of two and found that I simply couldn’t balance being a professor and being around my children as much as I wanted. It was like I had two conflicting identities. Plus I was working long hours and was completely burnt out.

During this time, my sister in law got me a workout program & nutrition plan that I fell in love with. I was working out regularly and finding an amazing escape for my stress. She also plugged me into an amazing community that provided so much support. Suddenly I found that I was working out consistently (something I never did) and I was losing weight. I lost a whopping 20 pounds! One day, at a family gathering, she mentioned that I’d make a great Beachbody Coach, but I immediately brushed it off. I didn’t want to be one of “those people” who made her friends feel awkward by constantly asking them to buy stuff from her [spoiler alert: I help teach you how to NOT do that…please don’t do that!].

But as time went on, I saw how being the professor I wanted to be conflicted so much with being the Mom I wanted to be. I signed on as a Beachbody coach, but I didn’t have a real understanding about the success this could create for me and my family. At that time my attitude was, “I’ll call this not a waste if I get my Shakeology paid for by Month 6.” My husband rolled his eyes at this new adventure, but agreed that it’s not a waste if I could at least pay for Shakeology after Month 6. Then if (or, in his words, “WHEN”) I didn’t get it paid for, I’d cancel.

I started to just share my fitness journey & was inviting people to join me. And you wouldn’t believe it, I paid off my Shakeology after my first month of coaching*! So much for that 6-month rule!

Since then, I’ve been able to leave my jobs outside of the home & run my Beachbody business at home! I can now work my business around my family, which was so incredibly important for me. Because of Beachbody, I’m also aggressively paying off my student loans & feel such a great sense of purpose being able to help others each and every day.

I have since completed my doctorate in Education, but rather than becoming a professor and teaching people in the classroom, I’ve taken that training & passion and used that to help people like YOU start a coaching business. And that’s the cool thing about coaching–no matter who you are, there’s something about your background that can be useful to people who you coach. Trust me on that, no matter your past, there is something about you that certain people need.

What Does a Beachbody Coach Do?

What a Beachbody Coach does is summed up best in the motto of the company: “Help people live healthy, happy, more fulfilling lives.” But let me take some time to give you a little more detail on what that entails:

It Starts With You

As a coach, you first start with yourself (and that continues throughout coaching). You begin working on your health–both on the inside and outside. You fuel your body right, you workout, and you read personal development every day. Not many businesses have as the #1 priority that you improve yourself–it’s pretty sweet. Does that mean you need to have six-pack abs to be a coach? No way! Coaches come in all shapes and sizes–what matters is that you are constantly on your journey to improve & grow. It also doesn’t mean you need to be PERFECT in your health & fitness (yes, coaches eat chocolate!)–again, it’s about growth!

What You Need to Know Before Becoming a Beachbody Coach

You Help Others

As you are getting healthy, you are inviting others to join you. You help them get started with a fitness plan & nutrition program based on their goals & needs and you run what is called a Challenge Group. These are private online groups where you can provide daily motivation, recipes, etc. Don’t worry–for all of this we hand you all of the materials that you can use to do it. We show you step by step how to do each of these things and give you materials that you could simply copy and paste–or make your own!

You Build a Team

You’ll find many of your challengers are HOOKED on this amazing culture of a challenge group. They love it! And one of the best things you could do for them is to invite them to join our team as a coach! You simply pass on all the trainings you got (or maybe you made some modifications and made it your own–that’s totally cool too!). But now you get to do what I think is one of the coolest things about being a coach: you get to help change the tapestry of someone’s life. If it weren’t for coaching, I would probably be stuck in a career as a professor, aching to be at home with my kids and be more present in their lives. I’d be drowning in student loan debt. I would feel like I’m living each day feeling like life was just repeating the same thing with no meaning behind it. But thank goodness my sister talked to me about the coaching opportunity. It completely changed how my life looked!

And YOU get the opportunity to help do that for others–isn’t that amazing?

5 Things You Need to Know Before Becoming a Beachbody Coach

There are a few things I want to make sure that I clarify before you become a Coach on our team.

1 | Success Doesn’t Come Immediately

This is no Get-Rich-Quick-Scheme. And honestly, I thank my lucky stars for that. I don’t trust any of that get-rich-quick stuff. I’ve never seen it work. But I HAVE seen how slow and steady wins the race (The Tortoise and the Hair is told a bazillion times for a reason!). It can produce some amazing results*. I’ve seen coaches on our team (myself included) make several hundred dollars in the first couple of months. But for the coaches who show up and are consistent over time….well…I’ve seen amazing things. That depends on your skill and effort–and I know you can do some amazing things if you put your mind to it.

2 | You need to Care About People

This is a business of relationship building. If all you are doing is selling-selling-selling, you have it all wrong. This business will take connecting with others & having a genuine desire to help them.

3 | Be You, Boo

I see this happen a lot. I have a friend on Facebook who suddenly joins a business, and soon every.single.post on their Facebook page is “Buy this…” “This is on sale” “Order this from me” I know you know what I’m talking about!!!! here’s the thing–I want you to be you, boo! Don’t give up yourself. Stay who you are, keep sharing that, but weave in this business.

4 | Consistency Is Key

Success in this business happens when you are consistent. Think of it like your fitness–you can’t lose weight if every other day you are eating garbage! If you want this business to reward you like a business, you have to treat it like a business, which means you’ll want to show up!

If you are a parent, your kids WILL get sick at one point. If you work, there WILL be a time when you’ll work late at some point. Life WILL get crazy, it always does. The coaches who I see as the successful ones are the ones who fit this business in despite that.

There are ways to fit this in with limited time (I’ve done this business working 50-60 hours a week with kids at home in diapers!) and I help teach you how to do that, but it does take a desire to do it

5 | Do You Have a “Why”?

While this business is AMAZING–and most days I absolutely love showing up for it. I won’t lie, there are times when I’m less-than-enthusiastic. Maybe it was a long day. Maybe I didn’t get a ton of sleep. THAT is when I dig deep and think about WHY I started.

I want you to start thinking of your WHY right now. Why are you considering becoming a coach? We all want to help people–dig deeper than that, because you can help someone by opening the door for someone at the grocery store! What is it about this business that appeals to you? Find that dig-deep why.

For example, my Why is I want to feel a strong sense of purpose. I want to feel like I applied myself post-doctorate. I want to be completely debt free.

Those are just some examples, and in our training we help you nail this down a little, but that why will help you push through when you may not feel like showing up!

How Does a Beachbody Coach Make Money?

Now let’s break down how coaches can earn money. Beachbody Coaches earn money in a variety of ways:

  • Commissions: when someone orders from you, you get 25% of that purchase. There are also certain products where you can actually get up to 50% of the commission
  • Cycle Bonuses: As your team grows & our team grows, you begin to earn what is called “Cycle” bonuses.

The following video does a fantastic job of breaking it down:

Our team is passionate about getting started strong. Let me break down what kinds of training we have:

  • New Coach Training: When you enroll in our team, first off you are enrolled in a coach training that walks you step-by step through our business. How Do I Sign Up to Be a Beachbody Coach?

Luckily it doesn’t take much to sign up–you can sign up as a coach for as low as $39. However, I want to encourage you to get what is called a “Challenge Pack”–this is Shakeology + a Workout program. If you do that, it waives your Coach Fee. Here are the two packages:

  • Basic Challenge Pack: this is a workout program (the DVDs…that you keep) + a month supply of shakeology for $160
  • All Access Challenge Pack: this gives you a full year of streaming all Beachbody On Demand workouts (that’s like Netflix for workouts!). With this package, you get access to any and all workouts Beachbody has ever released, and access to any workouts that Beachbody releases in the next year (they release several a year).

I highly recommend that you drink Shakeology monthly—to truly be proof the products work, you want to be using the products. So I want to be up front there. What’s sweet is that as a coach, you get 25% off of Shakeology and all other Beachbody products.

There is a monthly $15.95 coaching fee–but if you are drinking Shakeology daily, even with that fee you are saving about $20/month.
